THE NEXTFIELD TAKEKeep the eye. Broaden the brief.
There’s a difference between making another social post and figuring out how people find their way through a hospital. Both use graphic design. A degree that gets you beyond routine digital production gives you more directions to go.
The work under pressure
Routine layouts, campaign variants, and preliminary concepts are digitally reproducible tasks. Exposure is greatest when the deliverable matters more than research or implementation.
The skills to lean into
Client research, information architecture, physical production, and ownership of a coherent visual system add responsibilities that image generation alone does not fulfill.
Read the curriculum, not just the degree name.
Look for typography, information design, research, print production, and client projects that require decisions beyond making assets.
One field. Different futures.

Resizing assets, adapting templates, and making digital variants create substantial scope for automation.
Take the story off the screen and give people somewhere to explore it.
Why explore it: Objects, venues, movement, fabrication, and the needs of real visitors create constraints that must be resolved on site and across teams.
The fit. The tradeoff. +
Work can be project-based and location-dependent. The featured degrees are different routes into spatial work, not interchangeable exhibition-design credentials.
You care how it looks. You also want to pick it up and make it work better.
Why explore it: Prototype testing, ergonomics, material behavior, and collaboration with engineering and manufacturing require checking ideas against reality.
The fit. The tradeoff. +
This direction requires technical and spatial learning. A design degree does not automatically qualify someone as an engineer.
