KEEP WHAT YOU LOVE.
LOOK AT THE WORK.

“Is this degree safe from AI?” is a reasonable question. But a degree can lead to very different jobs. The more useful question is which work you want to do—and how a program prepares you for it.

1. Name the attraction

Animation might appeal because you like drawing, performance, storytelling, or solving technical puzzles. Don’t assume the name of the field captures what you enjoy. Identify the part you would want to keep if the tools changed.

2. Follow the degree into actual jobs

Compare the career rows on each field page. A graphic design graduate creating template variations has a different task mix from someone planning wayfinding for a building. The field average is only a starting point.

3. Read the course list

Look for specific experience: making prototypes, working with clients, teaching placements, fieldwork, physical production, and responsibility for a finished project. A program’s title does not tell you how much of that you will get.

4. Try an adjacent direction

If you like visual storytelling, compare illustration, animation, and exhibition design. If materials attract you, look at fashion, industrial design, and ceramics. The point is to preserve the interest while understanding the tradeoffs.

5. Separate exposure from opportunity

A field can be hard to automate and still offer limited work. Compare costs, location, credential requirements, and employment evidence separately. Our score does not measure any of those things.
